About This Beach

Will Rogers State Beach extends for three miles along Pacific Coast Highway between Santa Monica and Malibu, offering a less crowded alternative to neighboring beaches. Named after the famous humorist and actor who once owned the adjacent land, the beach features a wide expanse of clean, golden sand with good facilities including volleyball courts and a playground area. The Marvin Braude Bike Trail runs through the beach, connecting it to Santa Monica and other coastal communities. The northernmost section near Sunset Boulevard is historically known as “Ginger Rogers Beach” and has been a gathering spot for the LGBTQ+ community. Lifeguards are on duty year-round, and the gradually sloping ocean floor makes for relatively safe swimming conditions.
