Home/California/Trinidad State Beach

About This Beach

Trinidad State Beach is situated on a protected cove beneath forested bluffs in a picturesque fishing village along California’s northern coast. The beach is accessed via Trinidad Head, a massive rock formation that juts into the Pacific and provides hiking trails with spectacular viewpoints overlooking the beach and harbor. Offshore sea stacks create a dramatic coastal landscape and serve as nesting sites for seabirds including gulls and cormorants. A network of trails winds through Sitka spruce forest above the beach, offering filtered ocean views and access to smaller hidden coves. The protected waters of Trinidad Bay create relatively calm conditions for kayaking and paddleboarding, while adjacent Trinidad Harbor is home to a small but active fishing fleet that supplies fresh seafood to local restaurants.
