About This Beach
Sylvan Beach is a historical treasure on Galveston Bay in La Porte, once home to a grand pavilion and amusement park in the early 20th century. Today, the beach park features a 32,000-square-foot pavilion for events, a fishing pier extending into Galveston Bay, and a clean, well-maintained beach area. The shallow waters of the protected bay make it suitable for young children. The annual Sylvan Beach Festival, held each April, celebrates the area’s rich history with carnival rides, crafts, and live entertainment. The nearby Sylvan Beach Depot Museum preserves artifacts from the beach’s storied past as one of Texas’ first major tourist destinations.
