Home/Texas/South Beach at San Jose Island

About This Beach

South Beach represents the southernmost accessible portion of San Jose Island, reached via a short jetty boat ride from Port Aransas. This uninhabited beach offers one of the most pristine natural experiences on the Texas coast with exceptional shelling opportunities and clear waters. The south end features the St. Jo Island Jetty, creating excellent fishing conditions and protection from rougher seas. The beach has no facilities whatsoever, requiring visitors to bring all necessary supplies and pack out all trash. Bird watching is remarkable with many species using the undisturbed habitat, including roseate spoonbills and reddish egrets. The lack of development means dark skies at night, perfect for stargazing and occasional bioluminescent algae displays in summer months.
