About This Beach
Semiahmoo Spit is a narrow, mile-long sandy strip extending into Semiahmoo Bay near the Canadian border. The beach offers stunning views of Mount Baker, the San Juan Islands, and the Canadian Coastal Mountains. Historically significant as the site of the Alaska Packers Association Cannery, now preserved as a museum documenting the area’s fishing industry. The spit is recognized as an Important Bird Area with over 200 species recorded, particularly during migration seasons. The beach has beaches on both sides of the spit—Semiahmoo Bay and Drayton Harbor—offering different marine environments. Walking trails run the length of the spit, connecting to Semiahmoo Resort at the tip. The park includes interpretive signs about Coast Salish history and culture in the area.
