About This Beach

Sand Dollar Beach is the largest sandy beach along the rugged Big Sur coastline, forming a crescent of golden sand beneath dramatic cliffs. Part of the Los Padres National Forest, this beach is named for the sand dollars occasionally found along the shore. A developed day-use area provides picnic tables, restrooms, and a stairway leading down to the beach from the parking area. Popular for beachcombing, the shore often reveals jade stones, moonstone, and serpentine among the pebbles. The beach offers consistent surf breaks that attract experienced surfers, while anglers find good surf fishing opportunities. The relatively remote location means visitors often have plenty of space to enjoy the dramatic scenery and peaceful atmosphere.
