About This Beach

Rollover Pass Beach surrounds the historic Rollover Pass, a man-made channel connecting the Gulf of Mexico with Galveston Bay on Bolivar Peninsula. The pass itself was filled in 2020 after decades as a famous fishing spot, but the beach areas remain popular. The beach features brilliant white sand and good shelling opportunities, particularly after storms. The area allows beach camping without permits and has convenient road access. The name comes from historical use by smugglers who would “roll over” barrels of contraband from the Gulf to the Bay. Despite the pass closure, the area remains significant for its bird watching opportunities, particularly during migration seasons. Nearby Rollover Fish Camp offers supplies, bait, and local knowledge.
