About This Beach
Point Dume State Beach features a headland with towering bluffs that extend into the Pacific, creating a magnificent promontory visible from much of the Malibu coast. A trail leads to the top of the point, offering panoramic views of the Santa Monica Bay, Santa Monica Mountains, and even Catalina Island on clear days. The beach below the point has golden sands and excellent swimming conditions, while the exposed rock face of the point attracts rock climbers. The adjacent Westward Beach extends for three-quarters of a mile with good facilities and lifeguard service. During winter months, Point Dume provides an exceptional vantage point for spotting migrating gray whales, and seasonal wildflower displays add color to the blufftop preserve.
