About This Beach
Owen Beach is located within Point Defiance Park, a 760-acre urban oasis in Tacoma. The beach recently underwent a major renovation to improve accessibility and address climate change impacts. Situated along the Tacoma Narrows, it offers views of Vashon Island, the Olympic Mountains, and marine traffic. The beach is accessible via the Five Mile Drive loop through the park or from the Promenade along the waterfront. Harbor seals, sea lions, and various seabirds are commonly spotted from shore. The beach connects to a paved trail system that includes the scenic Waterfront Trail linking to Ruston Way. The improved facilities include picnic areas, kayak launching points, and educational elements about local ecology and Puyallup Tribe heritage.
