About This Beach
North Beach is part of Sonoma Coast State Park, offering a vast, windswept shoreline characterized by its wide sandy beach and dramatic backdrop of coastal bluffs. The beach is particularly known for its excellent beachcombing opportunities, with interesting driftwood, shells, and occasionally Japanese glass floats washing ashore. Adjacent to the beach is the North Beach Campground, one of the few campgrounds on the Sonoma Coast that accommodates both tents and RVs with 35 developed sites nestled amongst coastal scrub. The beach provides access to the Kortum Trail, a scenic path that follows the clifftops with spectacular ocean views and spring wildflower displays. Due to dangerous ocean conditions, swimming is not recommended, but the dramatic setting makes it perfect for photography, particularly at sunset.
