About This Beach

Muir Beach is a small, crescent-shaped cove nestled between hillsides within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Recent extensive habitat restoration has transformed the area, with a new parking lot, accessible boardwalk, and restored wetland and dune areas that have improved both visitor experience and ecological health. The beach is the endpoint of several hiking trails, including the Coastal Trail and Dias Ridge Trail, making it a popular destination for hikers exploring Mount Tamalpais and the Marin Headlands. Redwood Creek flows across the beach, creating interesting patterns in the sand and occasionally forming a small lagoon. The Pelican Inn, an English-style pub and inn, sits just inland from the beach, providing distinctive dining in a historic building.
