Home/California/Monterey State Beach

About This Beach

Monterey State Beach stretches along the southern shoreline of Monterey Bay, extending from Monterey to Seaside with spectacular views of the entire bay. The beach’s protected location within the bay creates gentler conditions than many California beaches, making it popular for swimming and water sports. The Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail runs adjacent to sections of the beach, connecting it to Cannery Row, Fisherman’s Wharf, and other attractions. The beach is known for excellent kayaking, with otters, seals, and abundant marine life often visible in the clear waters. The beach’s west-facing orientation provides unobstructed sunset views over Monterey Bay, while night visibility of the lights from Santa Cruz across the bay creates a magical evening atmosphere.
