About This Beach
Matagorda Peninsula Beach stretches for 23 miles on a thin barrier peninsula accessible only by boat or by driving onto the beach from Matagorda Bay Nature Park. The remote location and limited access create one of the least crowded beach experiences in Texas. The peninsula separates the Gulf from East Matagorda Bay, offering fishing opportunities in both bodies of water. Beach driving requires a 4WD vehicle due to soft sand in many areas. No services or facilities exist on the peninsula, creating a truly primitive experience requiring self-sufficiency. The area is renowned for fishing with redfish, flounder, and speckled trout abundant in the surf. The isolated nature makes this beach popular for overnight camping directly on the shore.
