Home/California/Limantour Beach

About This Beach

Limantour Beach stretches along a narrow spit of land separating Drakes Bay from an estuary within Point Reyes National Seashore. This long, pristine beach offers more sheltered conditions than many Northern California beaches, making swimming possible during calmer days. The beach’s dual-sided nature, with the protected estuary on one side and the open ocean on the other, creates diverse habitats that attract abundant wildlife. Harbor seals haul out along the estuary side, while shorebirds including the threatened snowy plover nest in protected areas. The beach is accessible via a short hike from the parking area and offers minimal facilities, maintaining its natural character. Kayakers can launch into the estuary for wildlife viewing in protected waters, while the main beach provides expansive views and excellent beachcombing opportunities.
