About This Beach
Leo Carrillo State Beach, named after the actor and conservationist, encompasses 1.5 miles of scenic coastline at the northwestern edge of Los Angeles County. The beach is notable for its sea caves, reefs, and tide pools that can be explored during low tide, revealing a fascinating array of marine life. North Beach allows dogs on leash, making it one of the few pet-friendly beaches in the area. A campground set within a sycamore grove accommodates both tent and RV camping just across from the beach, while hiking trails in the Santa Monica Mountains offer additional recreational opportunities. The beach has served as a filming location for numerous movies and TV shows, including scenes from “The Karate Kid” and “Beach Blanket Bingo.”
