About This Beach
China Beach is a small, sheltered cove nestled between Lands End and Baker Beach in San Francisco’s Sea Cliff neighborhood. Named for the Chinese fishermen who once camped here, this pocket beach offers stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin Headlands in a more protected setting than other nearby beaches. A paved parking area and stairway provide easier access than many San Francisco beaches, while facilities include picnic tables, restrooms, and outdoor showers. The relatively sheltered location creates slightly warmer water conditions than other nearby beaches, though swimming remains challenging due to cold temperatures and currents. The beach’s tucked-away location and small size mean it’s often less crowded than Baker Beach or Ocean Beach, providing a more tranquil San Francisco beach experience.
