About This Beach
Cayucos Beach is the centerpiece of a charming Central Coast town that has maintained its laid-back, vintage California atmosphere. The beach is anchored by the historic wooden Cayucos Pier, originally built in 1872 and recently restored, which provides fishing opportunities and panoramic views of Estero Bay with Morro Rock visible to the south. The beach features gentle waves on its northern end, making it family-friendly for swimming, while the southern section offers better conditions for surfing. Tide pools form around rocky areas at low tide, revealing sea stars, anemones, and small crabs. The adjacent downtown area maintains an authentic small-town feel with locally owned shops and restaurants, many housed in historic buildings dating to the late 1800s.
