About This Beach

Babe’s Beach is a newer addition to Galveston’s beach scene, created through an ongoing beach nourishment project that began in 2015. Named after former state senator A.R. “Babe” Schwartz, who championed coastal conservation, the beach extends from 61st Street westward. The beach features wider shorelines than many parts of Galveston due to the sand replenishment program. The location along Seawall Boulevard provides convenient access to restaurants, shops, and hotels with excellent nightlife options nearby. Free fitness stations installed along the adjacent seawall offer workout opportunities with ocean views. The beach profile tends to be flatter and firmer than natural beaches, making it excellent for walking, running, and beach sports. Recent improvements include better signage and additional trash receptacles to maintain cleanliness.
