South Beach (Tybee Island)
The liveliest area of Tybee Island, featuring the Tybee Pier and Pavilion, numerous restaurants, shops, and the island’s main nightlife scene. Popular with surfers and swimmers with lifeguards present during peak season. Offers beach chair and umbrella rentals.
Avon Beach
Located on Hatteras Island, Avon offers wide beaches with good fishing conditions and water sports. Features Avon Pier, rental homes, and proximity to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Known for windsurfing and kiteboarding.
Indian Beach
Small, quiet beach town on Bogue Banks between Emerald Isle and Pine Knoll Shores. Features less crowded beaches, good surfing conditions, and easy access to both sound and ocean waters.
Rodanthe Beach
Made famous by the Nicholas Sparks novel and movie “Nights in Rodanthe.” Features excellent conditions for watersports including kiteboarding and surfing. Home to the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station historic site.
Frisco Beach
Remote beach area on Hatteras Island with less development and more natural surroundings. Features 4×4 beach driving areas, Frisco Native American Museum, and Frisco Campground. Known for good surfing conditions.
Hatteras Village Beach
Historic fishing village at the southern end of Hatteras Island, known as the “Blue Marlin Capital of the World.” Features the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, ferry service to Ocracoke, and excellent offshore fishing opportunities.
Folly Beach
Known as “The Edge of America,” this laid-back beach town near Charleston offers excellent surfing conditions at The Washout. Features a vibrant downtown with restaurants and bars, a 1,045-foot fishing pier, and a bohemian atmosphere.
Ocracoke Beach
Named one of America’s best beaches, Ocracoke features 16 miles of pristine shoreline with soft sand and clear water. This remote beach offers a quieter experience and is accessible only by ferry. Famous for its historic lighthouse and wild ponies.
Cape Hatteras Beach
Part of America’s first national seashore, Cape Hatteras features magnificent beaches, cultural resources, and the tallest brick lighthouse in North America. Known for its excellent surfing conditions and some of the best sportfishing on the East Coast.
