Elms Beach Park
Quiet St. Mary’s County park on Chesapeake Bay featuring a sandy beach, fishing opportunities, and natural setting. Offers picnic facilities, portable toilets, and nature observation. Less crowded than many Bay beaches with limited facilities.
Holts Landing State Park
Small, quiet park on the southern shore of Indian River Bay featuring the only pier on Delaware’s inland bays built specifically for crabbing. Offers bay beach access, picnic areas, and boat launch. Less crowded than ocean beaches.
Augustine Beach
Northern Delaware beach on Delaware River featuring popular boat launch, fishing areas, and picnic facilities. Not primarily for swimming but offers river access, fishing opportunities, and scenic views of the Delaware River.
Robert Moses State Park
Five miles of shoreline with pristine beaches, picnic areas, and the historic Fire Island Lighthouse. Less crowded than Jones Beach with excellent facilities and fishing pier. Designated surfing areas available.
Hither Hills State Park
Beach and campground on the eastern end of Long Island featuring beautiful “walking dunes” of Napeague Harbor. Popular destination for families with campsites close to the ocean.
Orchard Beach
Known as “The Bronx Riviera,” this 1.1-mile crescent-shaped beach features a hexagonal-block promenade, snack bars, and playgrounds. Created in the 1930s as part of Robert Moses’ park development projects.
Orient Beach State Park
Natural beach on the tip of Long Island’s North Fork with maritime forest, salt marsh, and rare plants. Features kayak rentals, picnic pavilions, and a beach suitable for families with small children.
Sunken Meadow State Park
North Shore beach on Long Island Sound with three miles of shoreline. Calmer waters ideal for families with young children. Features hiking trails along coastal bluffs and through wetlands.
Zach’s Bay Beach
Protected bay beach within Jones Beach State Park offering calmer waters ideal for families with young children. Adjacent to the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater and picnic areas.
