East Beach (Housatonic)
A beach within Long Beach Wildlife Area with pristine, undeveloped shoreline. Offers excellent opportunities for wildlife observation and fishing adjacent to the Great Meadows Marsh unit of the wildlife refuge.
Sandy Point Beach
A beach and bird sanctuary at the mouth of New Haven Harbor accessible via a walkable sand spit. Important habitat for nesting shorebirds with excellent views of Long Island Sound and New Haven.
Red Rocks Park
A park featuring distinctive red rock cliffs overlooking Lake Champlain and a small beach area. Offers hiking trails through forest and along cliffs with spectacular views of the lake and Adirondacks.
Lake Iroquois Recreation District
A public beach on Lake Iroquois managed by surrounding towns. Features a swimming area with lifeguards, picnic facilities, and non-motorized boat access in a natural setting.
Bartlett Falls (Bristol Falls)
A natural swimming hole on the New Haven River with a waterfall and deep pool. Popular for swimming and cliff jumping with flat rock areas for sunbathing (use caution as no lifeguards present).
Squam Lake (Town Beach)
A serene town beach on Squam Lake, made famous as the filming location for “On Golden Pond.” Offers swimming in crystal clear waters surrounded by mountains and forests.
Silver Lake State Park
A pristine lake with a sandy beach surrounded by forests. Features excellent water quality, shaded picnic areas, and a boat rental concession for non-motorized watercraft.
Laudholm Beach
A pristine beach accessed via a mile-long trail through the Wells Reserve conservation area. Features unspoiled natural beauty, excellent bird watching, and educational programs.
Parsons Beach
A hidden gem with limited parking that helps keep crowds smaller. This beautiful beach offers good surfing conditions, scenic river views, and a more peaceful experience than larger beaches.
