Assateague Island (Virginia)

First Landing State Park Beach
Virginia’s most visited state park where English colonists first landed in 1607. Features 1.5 miles of beachfront on Chesapeake Bay, 20 miles of hiking trails, and diverse coastal habitats. Entry fee required with campground and cabin rentals available.
Calvert Cliffs State Park
Named for the impressive 24-million-year-old fossil-bearing cliffs. Features a small beach accessible via a 1.8-mile hike, popular for fossil hunting and swimming. Limited facilities at beach area with main amenities at the park entrance.
Assateague State Park
Maryland’s only oceanfront state park, located on Assateague Island adjacent to the National Seashore. Features 2 miles of ocean beaches, camping facilities, and wild horses. Day-use and camping fees apply with amenities including showers and camp store.
Flag Ponds Nature Park
Calvert County park featuring a sandy beach popular for fossil hunting, especially prehistoric shark teeth. Includes hiking trails, observation platforms, and fishing areas. Limited facilities with entry fee required and half-mile hike to beach.
Terrapin Beach Park
Queen Anne’s County park on Kent Island featuring a small beach area, 3.25-mile nature trail, and diverse ecosystems. Offers beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, wildlife viewing opportunities, and natural sandy shoreline. Free admission.
Roaring Point Beach
Small natural beach on the Nanticoke River and Tangier Sound in Wicomico County. Primarily accessed through Roaring Point Waterfront Campground with day-use fees or overnight camping. Offers quiet, uncrowded beach experience with limited facilities.
