Sunset Beach
North Carolina’s southernmost beach town, featuring a wide, flat beach with abundant seashells. Known for beautiful sunsets, Bird Island Reserve, the Kindred Spirit Mailbox, and several nearby golf courses.
Broadkill Beach
Quiet, lesser-known beach on Delaware Bay with recently replenished wide beaches. Features excellent horseshoe crab viewing in spring, fishing opportunities, and natural setting. Limited facilities with primarily residential surroundings.
Slaughter Beach
Designated horseshoe crab sanctuary and wildlife area on Delaware Bay. Not ideal for swimming but excellent for nature enthusiasts, bird watching, and fishing. Important habitat for migratory shorebirds with limited development.
Woodland Beach
Natural beach on Delaware Bay with 300-foot fishing pier and boat launch. Not recommended for swimming but excellent for fishing, crabbing, and wildlife observation. Features wildlife area and historic Woodland Beach Hotel ruins.
Gordon’s Pond Beach
Less developed beach area within Cape Henlopen State Park featuring the Gordon’s Pond Trail. Offers quieter beach experience, wildlife viewing opportunities, and popular biking trail. State park entrance fee required.
Orient Beach State Park
Natural beach on the tip of Long Island’s North Fork with maritime forest, salt marsh, and rare plants. Features kayak rentals, picnic pavilions, and a beach suitable for families with small children.
Lido Beach
Lido Beach offers a more upscale, relaxed alternative to nearby Siesta Key. The white sand beach features excellent facilities including a pavilion with concessions and rental equipment. Silver Sands State Park
Features a beach, restored salt marsh, and Charles Island accessible via a tombolo (sand bar) at low tide. Offers walking trails, good bird watching, and fishing opportunities in diverse coastal habitats.
East Beach (Housatonic)
A beach within Long Beach Wildlife Area with pristine, undeveloped shoreline. Offers excellent opportunities for wildlife observation and fishing adjacent to the Great Meadows Marsh unit of the wildlife refuge.
