About This Beach

Salt Creek Recreation Area features Tongue Point Marine Sanctuary, one of the richest tide pool areas in Washington State. The beach and surrounding 196-acre county park occupy a former World War II military installation, Camp Hayden, with bunkers and gun emplacements still visible. The area offers stunning views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Vancouver Island, Canada. Recognized as a premier scuba diving location, the underwater park preserves diverse marine ecosystems. The beach includes a mix of sandy areas and dramatic rocky outcroppings teeming with intertidal life including starfish, sea urchins, and anemones. The park provides camping, picnic facilities, and hiking trails through coastal forest.
