About This Beach

Bean Hollow State Beach features unique geological formations along its shoreline, including honeycomb-patterned rocks created by salt weathering and erosion that are a distinctive characteristic of this beach. The park consists of two separate beach areas connected by a mile-long trail that winds along blufftops with panoramic coastal views. The northern section is sandy and popular for beachcombing, while the southern area contains extensive tide pools that are some of the most accessible and diverse along the San Mateo coast. Offshore, harbor seals frequently haul out on rocks visible from shore, while migratory whales can be spotted during seasonal passages. The beach includes picnic facilities with tables situated to maximize ocean views, though facilities are otherwise limited to preserve the natural setting.
